Data methodology

This page explains how ASINtoJSON handles publicly available Amazon.com product information, including field availability, freshness, and lookup limitations.

What ASINtoJSON reads

ASINtoJSON reads publicly available information from Amazon.com product pages and normalizes selected fields into a structured format. Using the tool does not require an Amazon account or an Amazon API key, and it does not access private account data.

What we normalize

When available on the source page and reliably parsed, output can include the ASIN, canonical product URL, title, brand, images, rating, review count, category, Best Sellers Rank, and grouped product attributes.

See the example output for the current JSON structure. A field is not guaranteed to be present for every product page.

What we deliberately exclude

ASINtoJSON deliberately excludes price, stock and availability, seller or Buy Box information, delivery estimates, customer review text, and account-specific information from its normalized output.

It also does not provide variation-specific commercial state, a complete parent-child variation graph, or a full variation inventory.

Freshness and caching

Results may be served from cache to reduce repeated requests and improve reliability. A cached result is not a current Amazon page snapshot.

When a successful lookup response includes fetched_at, it identifies when ASINtoJSON originally obtained that result, not when the current response was delivered. Recent not-found outcomes may also be remembered temporarily.

Why lookups can fail

A lookup can fail when an ASIN or URL is invalid, a product is inactive or unavailable, the source page cannot be reached, or the page does not contain enough information to produce a normalized result.

Amazon may occasionally return a challenge page instead of product data. In that case, ASINtoJSON may temporarily be unable to complete lookups and pauses fresh requests to avoid returning unreliable data.

Marketplace, locale, and variations

ASINtoJSON supports Amazon.com products only. URLs from other Amazon marketplaces are unsupported. Accepted input is normalized to the 10-character ASIN in the product URL path and looked up through the Amazon.com canonical product URL.

For URLs with variation parameters, the lookup identity is the ASIN in the supported /dp/ or /gp/product/ path. Query parameters are not used to select or combine variations.

Independence

ASINtoJSON is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Amazon.
